The topic of Artyom Goloshchapov’s latest project is unarticulated, yet ever-growing anxiety caused by unpredictable evolution of digital platforms. Over the last 10 years, we have acquired as much as knowledge as in all the years before, reached the maximum comfort available, yet we are abysmally bad at predicting our future and potential risks. In the meantime, all this comfort comes at a price that is excessively high – our personal data and privacy. Lack of transparency in new network procedures for allocation of benefits and control (so-called ‘surveillance capitalism’) cause wide-spread cognitive distortions and fragmented view of the world, and thriving conspiracy theories tend to be an extreme manifestation of that. The artist calls this state ‘ridiculous equilibrium’ where the balance of power may all come crashing down with major consequences after one unexpected event.
The show will feature the videos the project has been named after and digital fine arts.
