On May 15 Mixed Media Week begins at the Rodchenko Art School. During the events you will have a chance to explore a wide range of opportunities to use various media, materials, and techniques, which can help you develop your art projects.
15.05 | 7 pm Opening of the exhibition Mixed Media at the Rodchenko Art School and a curatorial tour.
Sculptures, photography, paintings, objects made from ceramics, glass, fabrics, as well as other materials await you at the events.
16.05 | 7 pm Lecture by Vladislav Efimov and Maria Bavykina Constructing an Artistic Image. The lecture is about the opportunities to use photography in contemporary art in an experimental and conceptual way.
17.05 | 7 pm Lecture by Anna Prikhodko The Expanded Field: Contemporary Art Inside and Outside the White Cube.
Building on the concept of “the expanded field”, developed by Rosalind Krauss, the lecturer is going to explore works by contemporary artists which exist on the border between “the outside” and the space of “the white cube”. She will also discuss conceptual practices, radically breaking with gallery space, yet returning to it in the form of documentation.
Vladislav Efimov is a photographer, artist, and curator. The winner of the Innovation Prize, he received multiple nominations for the Kandinsky Prize and the Innovation Prize. Vladislav won the Golden Ratio architectural award twice. He participated in many international projects such as: Moscow Breakthrough, the Bargehouse, London (2006); A Second Sight, the International Biennale of Contemporary Art IBCA, Prague National Gallery, Prague (2005); Beyond the Red Horizon, Warsaw – Moscow, Ujazdów Castle, Warsaw, the National Center for Contemporary Art, Moscow (2004 – 2005); 7 Sins, Moderna Galerija Ljubljana, Ljubljana, Slovenia (2004); Faster than History, Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art, Helsinki, and many others. At the Rodchenko Art School Vladislav Efimov co-heads the workshops Time as an Illusion and Project Photography.
Maria Bavykina is a director, artist, curator, and lecturer. She is a graduate of the Department of Directing, as well as the Department of Screenwriting and Cinema Studies at the Russian State University of Cinematography named after Sergei Gerasimov and the Rodchenko Art School. Maria works with video and performance. As a video artist for exhibition projects, she collaborated with various museums, exhibition spaces, and galleries, including the Shchusev State Museum of Architecture, In artibus Foundation, and Maxim Boxer Gallery. She is a participant of international film festivals. At the Rodchenko Art School Maria teaches an elective in the framework of the workshop Project Photography together with Ekaterina Selezneva and Vladislav Efimov.
Anna Prikhodko is an artist and teacher. She is the author of the elective course curriculum at the Rodchenko Art School. She graduated from Moscow State University of Printing Arts named after Ivan Fedorov, the Animation School, and the Rodchenko Art School. For a year she did an internship at JoongBu University, South Korea, at the Department of Game Animation.
