The introduction by the dadaists of the element of chance was a crucial innovation in the art of the 20th century. The conscious taking of a decision gave way to the arbitrariness of new forms and behavioral models. Meanings were randomly mixed up and then picked out of a hat, and sentences were formed without even the slightest suggestion that they made any sense. But with what else, other than the absurd, could you oppose militant pragmatism? Later, with the spread of computer technology, this once avant garde approach began a second life in a generative art. All the main decisions are now delegated to a random number generator, and the results received allow us to view artistic processes without the participation of man, to reassess the place of the machine and the positioning of the artist in the modern media environment. The De-series project allows us to examine a utopian future – generative film production, all the stages of which are controlled only with the aid of a computer, from the designation of the genre and the writing of the script to the acting performed by virtual personae modeled on our favorite characters.
